"BLOS' success is in our dedicated pedagogical staff, wholeheartedly guiding children in their development and connection with the world."
– Liesbeth Buddingh van Binsbergen, L&D Specialist
BLOS has made significant progress over the years. Founded in 1992, BLOS kinderopvang began as an after-school childcare center driven by a passion for children. Evolving into a vast network of locations offering diverse childcare services, it now proudly ranks among the top 10 childcare organizations in the Netherlands. And, as of 2021, it's the fifth-largest globally within the Babilou Family.
This growth underscores the need for a unified BLOS culture. Simply put: ensuring colleagues feel at the heart of the organisation, becoming brand ambassadors who radiate the professionalism and quality BLOS stands for. A wonderful goal, encouraging a closer look at why a strong culture is crucial.

You begin shaping the organisational culture right from day one. That's why at BLOS you dive straight into a warm bath. Two weeks before your official start, BLOS extends an invitation to participate in a pre-boarding programme on the learning platform BLOX. This programme equips you with the necessary tools for a well-prepared entry into your role.
Following the onboarding process after your official start, you gain access to 'the campus’. This provides you with opportunities to engage in learning activities and enhance your knowledge, covering areas such as the New Pedagogical Policy.
In response to the changing view of childcare and the increasing workload in the sector, BLOS has been actively working to improve its culture. Employees are not only encouraged but also empowered to chart their own growth journeys. These journeys unfold through a dynamic mix of training, concise learning interventions, engaging podcasts and interactive games.
While the traditional path to positions like site or regional manager remains open, the focus is now on creating diverse learning journeys. The key question here is: how do you make learning as engaging and interactive as possible so that employees have plenty of opportunities to keep developing?
On the dynamic learning platform BLOX, employees have the opportunity to expand their skills and knowledge based on their individual interests. This includes activities like mentoring new colleagues or providing support to children in need. These personalised touches add a unique dimension to the careers of BLOS employees.

"The children provide the connection. That's what we try to reflect in all aspects of our work, including the BLOX platform. The platform is intended to showcase that at BLOS, employees can continue to develop and advance their salary."

Femke Duffhues, a pedagogical assistant by training, quickly found her place at BLOS. Thanks in part to the welcoming atmosphere of the BLOX learning platform. This platform not only embodies the essence of BLOS but also enhances Femke's sense of belonging.
Additionally, BLOX provides the flexibility for Femke to review information at her own pace and in her preferred location. This convenience aligns seamlessly with her demanding role in the group.
"I learned that you have to actively listen to children. I apply that to my daughter now."
- Femke Duffhues, pedagogical assistant in training
And those short learning activities from BLOX? Ideal for Femke to quickly flip open her laptop, just 10 minutes per activity. Flexible and practical, that makes BLOX an absolute winner for Femke for a flying start and further development within BLOS!

"We want to move towards an overview of people's skills and preferences. This will give us more insight into the cycles they go through and to what extent their goals can be supported by the platform."
Liesbeth, L&D Specialist
Thanks to the BLOX learning platform, BLOS is achieving its main goal: to create a strong culture and cultivate a workplace where employees genuinely enjoy their work. The outcome? Longer employee retention and reduced absenteeism. In a competitive industry, this is an achievement to be proud of.
Certainly, there are always areas open for improvement. L&D Specialist Liesbeth Buddingh van Binsbergen, for instance, is contemplating the usability and duration of learning activities.
Liesbeth says, "I'm working out questions like: How do employees perceive these modules, and can they be made more concise? Is it possible to utilise the platform for recruiting new colleagues? I'm also wondering if I can show our employees how they can move forward within the organisation one day. Can learning journeys be structured to empower individuals to chart their journey independently?"
With BLOX, the groundwork has been established, paving the way for BLOS to construct a future-proof learning platform.
